Deactivating know-how protection
Requirements
● The drive unit has been fully commissioned.
● Know-how protection has been activated for the drive unit.
Procedure
1. Connect the drive unit to the programming device.
2. Go online with STARTER.
If you have generated a project offline on your computer, you must load the project into
the drive unit and go online.
3. Select the required drive unit in the project navigator of your STARTER project.
4. In the shortcut menu, select "Drive unit know-how protection > Deactivate"

5. Select the required option:
– "Temporarily" deactivating: Know-how protection is active again after switching off and
– "Permanently" deactivating: Know-how protection remains deactivated even after
If you select "Permanently", you can also carry out a data backup on the Control Unit with
"Copy RAM to ROM". The checkbox with the same name is active in this case and is
automatically activated. If you deactivate this checkbox, you must perform a manual RAM
to ROM data backup later if the know-how protection remains deactivated after switching
off and on.
