Function Block (FB), Function ID, Signal number (Data ID)
Signal symbols

A function Block (FB) is one of software modules of the IED. Relay, control and communication
applications are made of their FBs. Logical address of input and output is expressed with a
signal number (i.e., function ID and element ID, or Data ID). The FB is made of 10 hexadecimal
numbers. Figure 1.7-1 exemplifies a symbol, a function ID, and element IDs. The table below
shows the structure of the signal number (Data ID).
