Human Machine Interface (HMI)
Outlook
5.7.1
Figure 5.7-1 shows the outlook of human machine interface module (HMI) on the front panel.
The HMI has a LCD screen, LEDs (#1–#14), operation keys, function keys (F1–F5), and a USB
port. LCD screen can display information; e.g. IED operation menu, status, setting data,
monitoring, fault records and others. We shall see the menus on the display in Chapter
interface
later (→p. 853). USB "B-type" port is provided for the connection to the PC. Thus, the
user can connect the engineering tools (GR-TIEMS®) or the PLC editor (MULTIPLOG®) with
the IED using the USB port.

Standard LCD
(i)
LCD screen can only display alphabetical texts in 8 rows and 21 columns (8×21 characters).
LCD contrast adjustment
(ii)
The user can adjust the screen contrast using setting [LCD Contrast]. When wishing the LCD
screen clearer, the user should select a large number through 0 – 10. Figure 5.7-2 shows the
LCD menus for the settings [LCD-Contrast].
