1. Drive pinion spacer
2. Bevel pinion bearing shim
Bevel pinion shim adjustment
(Mounting distance adjustment)
1) Place bearings, spacer, shim(s) and drive gear on bevel pinion
dummy of special tool (Bevel pinion dummy set) and tighten
bevel pinion nut to specified torque.
Use new nut.
Tightening Torque
(a): 120 N·m (12.0 kg-m, 87.0 lb-ft)

3. Drive gear
2) Using torque wrench, measure preload.
Standard value of preload: 5 – 13 kg-cm (0.37 – 1.08 lb-ft)

NOTE:
D Apply thin coat of gear oil to bearing before measure-
ment.
D Also before measuring preload, turn taper bearing a few
times to ensure its good fitting.
3) Place bevel pinion adjuster on surface plate as shown and set
dial gauge to "0".

NOTE:
As bearing size is different between right and left, use shim
supplied in bevel pinion dummy set under smaller size
bearing as shown.
4) Measure dimension "b" in figure by reading dial gauge.
