Important! The
USK
needs to be entered only
one time. Once entered,
the USK is permanently
stored in memory. The
USK will be destroyed if
FIPS is enabled and the
KVL 3000 is opened or
the Main Battery is re
moved for more than sev
eral minutes. The USK
can also be deliberately
cleared by using menu
operations.

Chapter 6 Using KVL 3000 in OTAR Systems
For OTAR operation, a Unique Shadow Key
(USK) must be programmed into the KVL 3000
for each algorithm being used. Each USK is a
multi character key typically assigned by the
Crypto/Security Officer for the system, and is
used to communicate with other secure
equipment (such as a KMC). The exact number
of characters is determined by the algorithm.
