Fault 28: All 48V CAN Bus Devices Offline

InfoCenter Display:
Fault Description
All of the 48 Vdc devices that send signals on the CAN bus circuit (the motor/generator and all 5 cutting
reel motors) are offline.
Circuit Description
The 48 Vdc component CAN bus circuit supports the 5 cutting reel motors and the motor/generator.
Conditions for Setting the Fault
Component signals on the CAN bus circuit are interrupted if the CAN bus circuit is disconnected. If the CAN bus
circuit is disconnected, the TEC-5002 disconnects power to the 5 cutting reel motors and the motor/generator,
and the TEC-5002 reports fault 28.
Note:
While this fault is active, the engine goes to high idle and the operator does not have control of engine
speed. This happens because the TEC-5002 controller doesn't have engine speed feedback since the
generator is offline. The cutting reel motors and the motor/generator are disabled.
Recommended Service Actions
Step 1: Verify that the fault repeats.
1.
Clear the system faults from the InfoCenter. Refer to
2.
Operate the machine.
Pass
The fault did not repeat. Go to
Note:
If the fault does not repeat, an isolated event has occurred.
Fail
The fault repeated. Go to Step 2.
Note:
The TEC-5002 reads incoming CAN bus messages from all connected components. If they are all
offline, a system problem exists (versus a problem with any single component). If a node (single component)
on the CAN bus becomes inactive, the TEC-5002 monitors the CAN bus for 1 second to determine if the loss
of the node on the CAN bus is node specific or is common throughout the system. The appropriate fault(s)
are then displayed and stored.
Step 2: With the engine off, check the 48 Vdc battery system.
Note:
The 48 Vdc battery pack is composed of 4 sealed 12 Vdc AGM batteries connected in series.
1.
Turn the engine off.
2.
Raise and support the operator's seat, then remove the black plastic cover from the main contactor.
