The primary function of the shell (along with doors and hatches) is to protect any personnel near the ma-
chine from potential danger (hot surfaces, moving mechanical parts and X-radiation).
The secondary function is to protect the components of the machine from external forces and contamina-
tion. It also ensures that the correct environmental conditions inside the machines can be maintained.
To prevent the doors from being opened and accidentally stopping a build-cycle, the doors can be locked
with keys.
