If two "cascaded" ETHER-1000 units are to be used to "tie" two JungleMUX
nodes (see Tying Ethernet Traffic later in this section), one unit must be located
at each node. The connection between the units is made from the right CBW
port of the unit at one node, to the left CBW port of the unit at the other node. To
complete the ETHER-1000 WAN ring in applications with single tie site, a CBW-
tie cable is used between companion JMUX units.
At a terminal (end node) in a linear network, only one of the two Line ports is
connected to a CBW port on the OC-3/OC-12/OC-48 JMUX unit. Either port can
be used. Note that cascaded ETHER-1000 units are not supported at those
nodes (no NMS support).
Line Port Connection
The Line Port (L/R) is a 40-pin connector located on the top plate of the unit and
it‟s used to connect the ETHER-1000 unit to the CBW port on the OC-3/OC-
12/OC-48 JMUX unit or to another ETHER-1000 unit cascaded on the same
CBW port.
For establishing Line port connections, special 40-wire ribbon cables are used.
Table 3 shows the cables that may be used depending on the type of far-end unit
and mode of operation used.
