A-3. Head Configuration

Fig. A-3-1 shows the configuration of the stationary and
rotary heads in the DNW-A75/A75P, and its top view.
However, the rotary heads can be actually viewed only
their tips from the side of the drum.
There are two recording heads (A and B) on the rotary
drum for the Betacam SX format. The erase head is
mounted in the height ahead by 16 tracks than the record-
ing head and erases the recording tracks of A and B
channel collectively.
The number of the playback heads on the rotary dum for
the Betacam SX format varies depending on the model
used.
DNW-A75/A75P has ten playback heads as follows :
ADVANCE heads :
8 heads
(ADV A1, A2, A5, A6, B1, B2, B5, B6)
CONFIDENCE heads : 2 heads (CNF A and B)

Both ADVANCE heads and CONFIDENCE heads are
used to play back a tape recorded based on the Betacam
SX format. In usual PB mode, the ADVANCE heads are
used to play back. In the REC and INSERT modes, the
ADVANCE heads play back the signal before erasure as
preread, and the CONFIDENCE heads play back a record-
ed signal to confirm that the signal has been recorded. For
that purpose, the ADVANCE heads and the CONFI-
DENCE heads are installed in the specified height on the
rotary drum so that they can trace the before track and after
track respectively toward the REC head.
There are four playback heads (two-channel Y/C heads are
mounted in pairs at an angle of 180 degrees opposite to
each other) for the Betacam and Betacam SP formats.
These heads are DT (Dynamic tracking) heads.
