4. For a modular 2U SAS expansion unit, open the lever toward you. When
the levers are completely opened, the lever will unplug the power supply
from the connectors inside the unit. The power supply is now about 1/
2" (12 mm) out of the unit.

Installing a power supply

These instructions apply to both the base unit power supply, expansion unit
power supply, and modular 2U SAS expansion unit.
NOTE: There is no power switch on an expansion unit. Power to expansion
units is controlled by the base unit to which the expansion unit is connected.
CAUTION! After removing a power supply, wait at least 20 seconds
before reinstalling it or installing a new one.
NOTE: If the Power Saving storage feature is installed on the array, you
must wait at least 20 seconds after you remove a power supply from the
unit before inserting it into the unit again.
Complete the following steps with the expansion unit power turned on.
1. Open the lock levers and position them straight out from the expansion
unit or modular 2U SAS expansion unit.
2. For the base unit and expansion unit, slide the power supply into the slot
until it is almost completely into the unit and the levers on the power
supply are just slightly open. Push the lock levers toward the front of the
unit until you hear the lock button on the lever click.
For the modular 2U SAS expansion tray, slide the power supply into the
slot until it is almost completely into the unit and the levers on the power
supply are just slightly open. Then push the left and right levers toward
the power supply.
3. Connect the power cord to the power supply and slide the cable retainer
onto the cable so that it cannot accidentally become unplugged. The
power supply turns on as soon as the power cord is plugged in. There is
no switch on the supply.
4. When the power supply is plugged in, it immediately does a self test
during which time the green Ready light on the front of the supply is
blinking. When the power supply is operating normally, the light changes
from blinking to ON. The test takes about 20 seconds.
5. After plugging the power supply in, wait at least 20 seconds and then
verify that the green Ready light on the power supply is on.
6. If it does not turn on, unplug the power cord, open the lock levers, and
slide the power supply part way out of the unit.
7. Wait at least 20 seconds and then insert the power supply again. Repeat
steps 3 - 6. If the Ready LED comes on go to step 9. If not, contact
Hitachi Data Systems Technical Support. See the Getting Help section in
the preface of the users guide or the service guide.
8. Connect all of the previously removed cables.
9.
Verify that the green READY LED on the power supply is ON.
