Chapter Overview LIB-162 is an AIT (Advanced Intelligent Tape) library with a built-in AIT drive. Up to 16 cartridge volumes can be set and used. You can set and use up to 16 cartridges at once. The unit can also be connected to, and used with, a workstation or server.

C Power Standby Switch (Home Position Switch) Hold for five seconds or more to move the library's internal mechanism to its designated position or turn the power on or off.
Rear A Power Supply Unit The power supply unit consists of a fan, a power supply connector, and a power switch. B Fan Please be careful not to block the ventilation holes. If the ventilation holes are blocked, the AIT library may overheat, resulting in fire or other damage. C Power Supply Connector Plug the provided power cord into this connector.

Control the library. Wide SCSI Host computer LIB-162 Notes • A SCSI host adapter card must be installed in the host computer. • In order to configure and maintain the library through a browser, browser software must be installed in the computer. Operating systems and browsers that are compatible with this library are as follows.

Installation Chapter Overview This chapter explains general procedures for positioning the AIT library, connecting it to the host computer and turning on the library power. This chapter also explains initial set-up. Installation and set-up steps may vary depending on your system. Place the library standing up so that the bottom is visible. Bottom Remove the transport lock (1) and transport screw (2). To cover the holes, affix the silver stickers provided on the positions marked by dotted lines in the illustration below. The transport lock (1) can be removed by turning it 90 degrees to the left or right.

Installing the AIT library The library weighs about 18 kg (39.7 lb.) and has the following dimensions. Before installing the library, make sure that the surface on which you are placing it is large and strong enough. D BY With the rack mounting kit, ACY-RK2 (sold separately), the AIT library can be installed on an EIA_STANDARD 19-inch rack.
Connecting the Power Cable Confirm that the power switch on the rear of the AIT library is turned off (a is pressed). Connect one end of the power cable to the power supply connector and the other end to the electric outlet. Connecting to the Host Computer Connect the AIT library and the host computer with a SCSI cable.

SCSI bus, shorter than 12 meters (39 ft. 4.4 in). (When connecting the AIT library to a single-ended SCSI host adapter that provides SCSI termination, use a SCSI cable shorter than 1.5 meters or 59 inches.) • Using SCSI cables longer than 30cm (11.8 in.) to connect between devices is recommended.

To set the DIP switches: Press the Standby switch on the front panel to enter the standby mode. Use a pointed object such as a machinist’s screwdriver to change the settings of the DIP switches. Press the Standby switch to turn on the power. Connecting SCSI Peripheral Devices SCSI peripheral devices can be connected to the SCSI connectors of the AIT library.

Press the power switch on the rear of the library. The library can only be turned on by pressing the power switch on the rear. The initialization operations appear on the LCD display. Initialize completed Inventory When the initialization process ends, the library enters the time setting mode.
Turn the Power Off Press the power standby switch on the front panel. When the power standby switch is pressed, the internal mechanism moves to the predetermined position, then the power enters the standby state. When the message on the right appears, the library does not turn off automatically.
Setting the Date and Time Use the Configuration Menu of the control panel to set the date and time. The device is shipped with the factory default settings of “1/1/2001, 12:00:00” (January 1, 2001, 12h00m00s). Set the device to the current date and time. Note The date and time can also be set through a browser.

Affix the provided bar code label to the cartridge. Squarely affix the barcode label in the position shown in the figure, orienting it so that the numbers are at the top. Basic Usage Chapter Overview This chapter explains the control panel, basic settings, handling the cartridges, element addresses assignments and daily maintenance. Assigned Element Addresses An element is a physical location where a cartridge can be kept.
Note Since the element addresses of the library are fixed numbers, they cannot be reassigned. Click “System Configuration” on the Library Administration Menu, then click “Password”. The “Password” page appears. In the “Old Password” box, enter the current password. If you are setting the password for the first time, enter “LIB- 162A”. In the “New Password” box, enter the new password up to eight alphanumeric characters and symbols (! @ # $ % ( ) - { } ~ ").
The following items are in the Maintenance Menu. • Life Count Displays the number of times a specific part has been operated. • Error Count Displays the number of times an error has occurred in a specific part. • Sensor Displays information about the individual sensors, DIP switches and encoder values.
Error Count In “Error Count”, the number of times an error has occurred in a specific part is displayed. In the Library Administration Menu, click “Maintenance”, then click “Error Count”. The “Error Count” page appears. In the “Error Count” page, the numbers of times an error have occurred in the following specific parts are displayed.

Firmware Upload In “Firmware Upload”, the firmware of the AIT library can be updated. In the Library Administration Menu, click “Maintenance”, then click “Firmware Upload”.

When the device is shipped from the factory, the password is set to “LIB- 162A” as default. When the following screen appears, enter “LIB-162” for “User Name” and “LIBRARY” for “Password”, then click “OK”. Chapter 6 Using the Library Administration Menu...
The “Firmware Upload” page appears. In the “File Name” box, enter the file name (in full path) of the firmware. Also, you can click the “Browse” button to specify the file. Click “Upload”. Starts to update the firmware. Caution • Do not turn off the power of the AIT library while the firmware is being updated.
Information In “Information”, the following information related to the AIT library and AIT drives are displayed: • Vendor ID • Product name • Revision ID • Serial number Note Information related to the AIT library and the AIT drives can also be viewed in the Information Menu of the control panel.

In the Library Administration Menu, click “Tape Inventory”. The “Tape Inventory” page appears. • For the slots and AIT drives that have cartridges, are displayed. • If a cartridge with no bar code information is set, nothing is displayed. • If a cartridge with no R-MIC information is set, nothing is displayed. Appendix If You Forget the Password If you forget the password, you will not be able perform configurations and operations that require the password. If you forget the password, contact the Service and Support Center. Changing the Air Filter Once a year, change the air filter of the AIT library. Contact your dealer if you wish to buy additional air filters.
To remove the air filter, put your finger on the rough part of the air filter port and slide the filter horizontally. Insert a new air filter. Push it in until it clicks into place. Change the other filter using the same steps. Troubleshooting Before contacting your Service center, please check the following items.
“Replacing the Cartridges” (page 50) in Chapter 4, “Operating the AIT Library”. • Use only Sony’s AIT cartridges. Also check whether the AIT drive supports the cartridges. • If a cartridge has been used for a long time or very frequently, replace it with a new cartridge.
• Remove all the cables such as the power cable, the SCSI cable, the terminator and the network cable.
