When playing a wide image (16:9) disc, black bands are inserted at the top and bot-
tom to display images in 4:3 size. You can enjoy full wide images.
When playing a wide image (16:9) disc, the left and right sides of the image are cut
(pan scan) to display natural-looking 4:3 size images.
Angle
You can enjoy a scene from various angles on DVDs with multiple angles.
Chapter
A title is divided into chapters.
Disc menu
The menu recorded on a DVD, where you can select a subtitle language, audio lan-
guage, sound system (Dolby Digital 5.1ch/DTS), etc.
Dolby Digital
One of the digital audio systems for theatrical use. You can enjoy the stereophonic
effect in the home theater system.
Dolby Pro Logic II
When playing a stereo-recorded disc or video tape, the Dolby Pro Logic II function
converts the sound to the 5.1ch digital sound automatically. More natural sound effect
can be achieved.
DTS
One of the digital audio systems for theatrical use. As the sound quality is empha-
sized, you can enjoy the realistic sound effect in the home theater system.
GAMMA
Corrects gradations in dark areas of images to make them clearer.
Optical pickup
Laser device that reads the data from a disc.
Parental level
Some DVDs allows you to restrict undesirable scenes according to the age of view-
ers.
Playback control (PBC)
This is a playback system for video CDs which allows you to select information to be
displayed during playback.
Region number
A DVD bears a number of the region where the disc can be played.
SUPER PICTURE
This function sharpens the picture quality.
Title
A title is one movie on a DVD on which more than one movie are recorded.
Top menu
The menu recorded on a DVD, where you can select the title to be played.
Track
Each one of multiple tunes that are recorded on a CD.
Virtual
Although no sound is heard from the surround speakers, you can still enjoy the 2.1ch
surround sound as if they exist.
Zoom
You can enlarge the size of the displayed image.
