Operation
1. Flushing device

Install cowling

1.
Be sure that a cowling lock lever is re-
leased.
2.
Be sure that the rubber seal is seated all
the way around the engine.
3.
Set the top cowling straight down onto
the engine, being careful to avoid catch-
ing spark plug wires or other wires.
4.
Align the three cowling hooks with the
locks on the bottom cowling.
5.
Press down on the top of the cowling at
the front and both sides of the back until
the three locks click.
6.
Check to be sure it fits properly in the
rubber seal.
7.
Move the lever to lock the cowling as
shown. NOTICE: If the cowling is not
installed correctly, water spray under

the cowling can damage the engine,
or the cowling can blow off at high
speeds.

After installing, check the fitting of the top
cowling by pushing it with both hands. If the
top cowling is loose, have it repaired by your
Yamaha dealer.

Checking power trim and tilt system

WARNING
Never get under the lower unit while it
is tilted, even when the tilt support lever
is locked. Severe injury could occur if
the outboard motor accidentally falls.

Body parts can be crushed between the
motor and the clamp bracket when the
motor is trimmed or tilted.
Be sure no one is near the outboard
motor before performing this check.
