processor modules in the second processor cage. Do not spread the
processors across the two processor carrier boards evenly.
f. All unused processor slots must be occupied by terminators.
NOTE
The NetServer LXr 8500 has built-in voltage regulator modules
on the processor baseboard. Therefore, you don't need to install
voltage regulator modules in the LXr 8500.
3. Replace each processor cage cover on the LXr 8500. Insert the tabs on the
back of the cover into the matching slots on the rim of the cage. Lower the
cover into place and fasten the captive screws.
Determine the Slot Position of Each Accessory
Board
4. Decide where to place each accessory board using these guidelines (see
Figure 5-8 for slot location):
Install 5V boards in slots 1 through 6.
Install 3.3V boards in slots 7 through 10.
Install Universal boards in any open slot. (Universal boards are dual
mode and can be used in either 3.3V and 5V slots.)
All slots support 32-bit and 64-bit PCI boards.
Slots 7-10 are 66 MHz capable, but will also allow 33-MHz 3V or
Universal boards. When there are 33- and 66-MHz boards on the same
bus, the entire bus, and all boards on it, run at 33 MHz.
All slots are hot-plug capable (if your network operating system
supports this feature).
Consider the NetServer's boot order when selecting a PCI slot on the
I/O baseboard. If you are installing a SCSI controller board, the priority
of the controllers (where the BIOS will search for the boot drive) is set
by the board's slot location. See the HP NetServer LXr 8500
Installation Guide for more information.
Where possible, spread high-performance PCI boards across multiple
busses. See the HP NetServer LXr 8500 Installation Guide for more
information.
