Only Yamaha Could Set These Goals for a Home Theater
Yamaha introduces a new benchmark for receiver performance: the RX-Z9. This flagship model goes
beyond the capabilities of previous high-end Yamaha models with High-Definition CINEMA DSP
technology, the ability to automatically optimize the sound for the listening room, superior audio and
video quality, and the operating ease that Yamaha is famous for. The high end just moved up a step.
RX-Z9
Digital Home Theater Receiver
9-Channel Amplifier Capable of
Delivering 1,290W
When you power up your carefully
assembled, top class home theater system,
you expect beautiful sound and video quality,
but you also want plenty of raw power.
Especially at dynamic peaks, such as
explosions or the climax of rock songs, you
want to be thrilled and awed, without a hint
of distortion marring the moment. The
RX-Z9 is built to satisfy your urge for power,
surrounding you front, sides and rear with
seven channels capable of outputting a huge
170 W each, plus another 50W from the two
presence (front effect) channels. That's a total
14
of 1,290W. Movies will sound as if you're in
the director's chair, and you can even enjoy
multi-channel sources from only four or five
speakers (even without a subwoofer,
although this is not recommended), thanks
to an analog mixdown mode. Another point
to consider is that because of this high
power capability, at normal listening levels
the amplifier won't be working as hard, so
distortion levels are virtually zero.
Superior Digital-to-Analog
Converter System
For the important digital-to-analog
converters, Yamaha has chosen the
PCM1792 manufactured by the high-end
audio expert, Burr-Brown. The RX-Z9 uses
these DACs for all channels. The PCM1792
is a high-performance, precision 24-bit DAC
with ultra-low distortion of only 0.0004%
(THD + N) and S/N ratio of 129dB. It
offers superior low level linearity, with
excellent full-scale performance under
varying operating conditions. Its major
benefit is performing accurate sound field
processing for high quality multi-channel
reproduction such as Dolby Digital and
DTS. For two-channel stereo, the
PCM1792 provides outstanding separation
and accurate musical delineation. An
