CONTROLS COMMON TO ALL MENUS

XILON features a number of keys used for navigating within the workspace (i.e.
contents of a single or multiple display screens) and for selecting individual items.
Before an item can be selected, it must have the focus.
Generally speaking, two symbols,
the focus, i.e. that an item can be selected simply by pressing <ENTER>. However,
other symbols are also used. In this context, a distinction must be made between:
1.
focused items in dialogs,
2.
focused items in the tool bar menu, and
3.
focused items in the tree view menu.
In dialogs, focused buttons are bracketed by the focus symbols thusly:
On the other hand, focused edit fields are indicated by a single focus symbol to the
left of the colon, e.g.:
When an edit field has the focus, you are free to enter data in the corresponding
input field line (beginning with "f:", "x=", "$:", "x:", "c:", or "=") at the bottom of the
screen.
Focused items in list boxes are preceded by a "more items" symbol (<↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ >,< >,or
<↑ ↑ ↑ ↑ >) in inverse font, indicating that there are more items (momentarily hidden from
sight) located below (<↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ >), above and below (< >), or above (<↑ ↑ ↑ ↑ >) the displayed
item in a list. If one of these "more items" symbols is displayed in front of a colon of
a focused item, these keys can be used to move to an item appearing in a list (e.g.,
"0","1","3","6", or "–" as the length of a domain).
In the tool bar menu, focused icons are indicated by being in inverse font.
In the tree view menu, focused items are indicated by a single focus symbol ( )
located to the right.
The cursor keys <↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ > and <↑ ↑ ↑ ↑ > can be used to move to items (including items from a
menu in the tree view and icons from the toolbar).
The cursor keys <→ → → → >and <← ← ← ← >can be used for navigational purpose in the toolbar
menu. In addition, if the contents of a line are too long to be displayed all at once,
then the cursor symbol at the beginning of the line indicates that the cursor can be
used to scroll within the line.
If more than one dialog element or menu entry is displayed in the workspace (i.e.
on the screen), the <PgUp> and <PgDn> keys can be used to switch the focus
between the items.
Depending on the item selected, different functions can be utilized by pressing the
<ENTER> key.
