    ACTIVE LED This LED goes on green when the EM card is specified as an "Active" card. If the EM card is specified as "Standby" card, this LED does not light.     Basic Features This section describes basic features of the EM card. Management Feature Management features of the EM card are as follows: Power Management The EM card manages DC output of power supply unit(s) in the Blade Enclosure. When the AC power is supplied to the Blade Enclosure, the EM card starts operating.
  • Page 26  There are three power redundancy modes; N+N redundant, N+1 redundant and non-redundant. – In the N+N redundant mode, each power supply unit is divided into two groups to configure the redundant power supply system. If a power supply in a group is defected, only the power of the other group can maintain the system operation.
  • Page 27 When a switch module inserted to a switch module slot issues a power-on request, the EM card checks the power consumption of the switch module and turns on the power of the switch module if the power-on is possible within the maximum power consumption management described above.
  • Page 28 Power Linkage with NAS Blade NOTE: NAS Blade is shipped only in Japan. Powering on/off of desired NAS blade can be interlocked with the CPU blade. Using the Blade Enclosure Inter Connect, power linkage feature can be used between the several Blade Enclosures. Built-in UPS Unit Management The EM card monitors the status of built-in UPS unit.

  • Page 30 Interface Management between CPU Blade and Switch Module If the CPU blade is incorrectly connected with the switch module, it will be damaged. To prevent this, the EM card checks the interface between them. If the interface is not proper one, the EM card suppresses power-on of the relevant CPU blade and the switch module, or disable the connection port.

    The events to be reported are equal to SNMP trap message issued by the SNMP Agent. To get an SNMP trap message, you need an SNMP Manager such as NEC ESMPRO Manager. However, for E-Mail Alert, you need only the general E-Mail environment.

     The EM card may be installed or removed by any user. However, NEC does not assume any liability for damage to devices or the server or malfunctions of the server resulted from installation by the user. NEC recommends you ask your service representative for install or removing the EM card.

  • Page 40 Locate the slot to install the EM card. Insert the EM card into the slot while pushing the handle. NOTE: When removing the EM card, hold the handle and pull the EM card out from the slot. Handle Secure the EM card to the Blade Enclosure by using the thumb nut located at the left end of the card.

Overview When an error occurred in the EM card, you may be requested to collect error log according to the procedure described below. The error logs are used for troubleshooting.
