Troubleshooting
If it appears that the DVD Recorder is faulty, first consult this checklist. It may be that something has been overlooked.
Under no circumstances attempt to repair the system yourself; this will invalidate the warranty. Look for the specific
symptom(s). Then perform only the actions listed to remedy the specific symptom(s).
Symptom
The Recorder does not respond to
the remote control
No power
No picture
Distorted picture distorted sound
Recorder does not play disc
No sound
Distorted sound from HiFi amplifier
Distorted or black and white picture with
DVD or Video CD disc
No audio at digital output
Buttons on the DVD Recorder do not work Disconnect and reconnect the DVD Recorder from the power outlet. If
Recorder does not respond to all
operating commands during playback

Remedy
The remote control may be configured for a second DVD Recorder.
Hold the S S E E L L E E C C T T and 1 1 buttons pressed simultaneously to revert to
DVD Recorder 1.
Aim the remote control directly at the sensor on the front of the
Recorder.
Avoid all obstacles which may interfere with the signal path.
Inspect or replace the batteries in the remote control.
Make sure power cord is properly connected.
Check if there is power at the AC outlet by plugging in another
appliance.
Check if the TV is switched on.
Check the video connection.
Check the disc for fingerprints and clean the disc with a soft cloth,
wiping from the center to the edge in a straight line.
Sometimes a small amount of picture distortion may appear. This is not
a malfunction.
Ensure the disc label is facing upward and the right disc type is inserted.
Clean the disc.
Check if the disc is defective by trying another disc.
Check if the region code of the disc matches the region code of the
Recorder (pre-recorded DVD discs only.) See 'playing a pre-recorded
DVD-Video disc.'
Check if Child Lock is activated.
Check audio connections.
If using a HiFi amplifier, try another sound source.
Check to make sure that no audio connections are made to amplifier's
phone input.
Check to make sure that analog input of the amplifier is not connected
to the digital output of the DVD Recorder.
The disc format does not match the color system of the TV
(PAL/NTSC).
Check the digital connections.
Check the settings menu to make sure the digital output is set to on.
Check if the audio format of the selected audio language matches your
receiver capabilities.
this does not solve the problem, check if the remote control still works.
If so, the Recorder is probably in trade mode. Disconnect the Recorder
from the power source and reconnect it while pressing and holding
/ OPEN/CLOSE and 9 STOP for a few seconds.
Some operations are not permitted by the disc. Refer to the
instructions in the disc jacket or case.
