The HDD access LED will flash green whenever the memory is being accessed. This works in a similar way to the hard disk drive access LED on your desktop PC. Run Status LED The Run Status LED shows the operating status of the card. Green indicates that the SVMi-8 is running normally; any other condition indicates a fault. VPM CONNECTORS This is a proprietary connector for installing up to two voice processing modules (VPM).

HDD is determined by the size of the drive (in Megabytes, MB). The current storage time of this memory is about 190 hours. The memory for the SVMi-8 card is available only from SAMSUNG.

4 Voice VPM (VPM)—4 Port Voice Processing Module This add-on card provides four channels of voice, otherwise known as ports. It allows four simultaneous callers to use the services of the SVMi-8. One or two of these cards may be added to the SVMi-8.
  • Page 14: Software Features

Software Features The software for the SVMi-8 is installed at the factory. All that is needed is for it to be customised to meet the indi- vidual requirements of each installation. In some cases even this may not be necessary.

Any of these conditions can be set to be active until a specified time. The SVMi-8 can even be set with a high priority 'Find Me' instruction that will try to reach the subscriber at multiple locations.
  • Page 21 Hold for Busy Station The SVMi-8 may be enabled to allow callers to hold for a busy station. When a caller elects to hold, the SVMi-8 places the caller in a Hold Queue. If additional callers attempt to reach the busy extension and they choose to hold, they can be informed of their position in the queue and the estimated hold time before being connected.
  • Page 22: Voice Mail Features

When the caller elects to have the subscriber paged, the SVMi-8 parks the call and plays a prompt through the overhead paging facility that contains the subscriber's name and a pick-up code. The SVMi-8 waits a programmable period for the subscriber to pick-up the call.
  • Page 23 The SVMi-8 will make three attempts to contact you. If it encounters a busy signal it will try again in five minutes, if it encounters no answer it will try again in 15 minutes.
  • Page 24 A mailbox does not have to be defined in terms of an extension, or an extension in terms of a mailbox, in order for the SVMi-8 to associate them. A subscriber's mailbox number need not match the subscriber's extension number.
  • Page 25 Caller ID is received, and the feature is allowed by the system administrator. A subscriber may reply to a message sent by a public caller. If the public caller requested a return call, SVMi-8 will play the message envelope and announce, "Callback Requested".
  • Page 26 Retrieve Public Caller When a subscriber logs on, they are notified if a caller is holding, and the SVMi-8 offers to transfer the caller to the subscriber's designated location. If the caller is identified, SVMi-8 will speak the caller's name.
  • Page 27: Administration Features

Until… Scheduling The Until… Scheduling method is an easy way to schedule the termination of an SVMi-8 serv- ice relative to the time the service is set active. Most of the services in the SVMi-8 give subscribers greater control over their communications by providing Until… Scheduling. The subscriber just sets a time for the service to termi- nate, concurrent with activating it, and does not have to worry about remembering to deactivate the service in the future.

  • Page 38: Connecting Optional Equipment

The serial cable for the SVMi-8 is made with pins 2 and 3 already reversed because the SVMi-8 serial port is non- standard (the SVMi-8 COM port uses pin 3 for RXD and pin 2 for TXD). This is why a pin to pin cable works for local programming (direct PC connection) and a null modem cable does not.
  • Page 39: Remote Programming

Connecting Optional Equipment When this is complete press ‘Ctrl + L’ two or three times to refresh the screen and you should see the SVMi-8 Status Screen. You are now ready to program the system. Remote Programming Connecting to the SVMi-8 system via the modem allows a remote administrator to monitor and provide routine administration without having to be on site.
  • Page 40: Parallel Port

The parallel port on SVMi-8 is used for UPLOADING (sending) and DOWNLOADING (receiving) files to and from the SVMi-8. This connector is designed to connect to a Zip Drive. Use of a Zip drive is recommended because all the necessary drivers are pre-installed on the SVMi-8 hard drive and the parallel port is already mapped to our back up and restore utility.

Administration, and DTMF Subscriber Administration. The Screen Interface Most of the programming is achieved using a PC attached to the SVMi-8 serial port. This makes use of a graphical user interface (GUI), and is considered necessary for initial setup. Knowledge Requirements A general knowledge of PC's and Windows is required.

Note that there are many applications that may be created that introduce complexity to the reporting process. For instance, blind transfers will cause a call record when the SVMi-8 answers and then another record when the station forwards or recalls (2 records for 1 call). Also the calculations are made by each module of software and may seem to be inconsistent if a comparison to another statistic is assumed.

This allows the caller to pass from one to the other as the call is processed. The default configuration in the SVMi-8 has been designed to simplify installation and reduce the amount of time it takes to learn the application. Many of the programming options have been disabled or fixed at a default value.

Each block type has a specific function, and can be chained together with other blocks to provide a complete call processing solution. There are 13 blocks available in the SVMi-8 as follows: Houses up to 15 minutes of recorded voice information for playback in an Announcement Block audiotext application.
  • Page 78: Extension And Mailbox Objects

Station Block any calls it uses a station block. All devices accessible via Touch-Tone dialing in SVMi-8 use at least one of these. Each contains the call progress information to monitor and process calls to the associated device(s). Extension and Mailbox Objects On the SVMi-8 Subscribers are defined by both extension blocks and mailbox blocks.
  • Page 79: Modes

Modes At any time of the day the SVMi-8 system is in a specific operating mode. This may be as simple as Day Mode (business hours) or Night Mode (business closed) or it can be very complex (Special Mode for Port 2 Only, on July 19th between 7 and 8 p.m.).

The BYE Block is very simple. Its purpose is to say good-bye to the caller, disconnect the call, and free the port. The only parameter is the prompt to be spoken before disconnecting. There is only one Bye block available in the SVMi-8 but additional Bye blocks can be added.

  • Page 100 It is particularly useful when a group of people in an organization share a single telephone. Each per- son in the group can be assigned his own Key in the SVMi-8 subscriber database. The Dial Number, however, will be the same for each virtual extension.
  • Page 101 The mailbox block also has a language field, and the SVMi-8 will try to resolve these fields to a single value (make them match). If conflicting information is contained in these fields, the Extension Block has priority and the Mailbox Block will be automatically changed to match.
