15 BUILT-IN KISS TNC

The built-in TNC operates in KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid)
mode.
When connecting TH-D74 to a PC installed with APRS
software and operating the IGate and Digipeater stations, set
TH-D74 to KISS mode.

KISS MODE OPERATION

Press [F], [LIST] to enter KISS mode.
The following indicators appear on the transceiver display to
show the current TNC status:
Indicator
The TNC is in KISS mode.
1200 bps packet transfer rate selected.
9600 bps packet transfer rate selected.
Packets to be transmitted still remain in the buffer.
Note:
◆ The built-in TNC, Command and Converse mode is not
supported.
◆ The built-in TNC has 4k byte KISS mode data buffers for TX
and RX.

Note:
◆ As the built-in TNC directly enters KISS mode and not via command mode, commands such as "KISS ON" and "RESTART" to enter KISS
mode from command mode are not necessary in the APRS software.
◆ After exiting KISS mode with the KISS command "C0,FF,C0" (192,255,192) and when KISS mode is set to ON with a command from the
PC, use the PC command "XX" in TH-D74.
Status
Description
This frame contains data that should be sent out of
the TNC.
Setting the amount of time to wait between keying
the transmitter and beginning to send data (in 10 ms
units).
Setting the persistence parameter. Used for CSMA.
Setting the slot time (in 10 ms units). Used for CSMA.
Setting the length of time to keep the transmitter
keyed after sending the data (in 10 ms units).
Setting the half duplex or full duplex.
Switching the packet communication speed.
Exit KISS mode.
Setting the Data Band Frequency
Set the data band frequency to the KISS network frequency.
The default setting of the data band is band A.
You can change the data band to band B by Menu No. 506.
Selecting the USB/ Bluetooth
You can select the device to USB or Bluetooth by Menu No.
903.
• When connecting to a computer using a USB or Bluetooth
, download the virtual COM port driver.
• Download the virtual COM port driver from the URL listed
below.

Note:
◆ Do not connect the transceiver to a PC with a USB cable until
the installation of the virtual COM port driver downloaded
from the above URL has been completed. If the transceiver is
connected to a PC without installing the virtual COM port driver,
a wrong driver incompatible to the transceiver may be installed
and communication between the transceiver and PC may not
be established. To prevent the installation of a wrong driver, be
sure to complete the installation of the virtual COM port driver
before connecting to a PC.
◆ Transfer rate (baud rate) between the transceiver and PC are
USB (up to 12 Mbps) or Bluetooth (up to 128 Kbps).
◆ Depending on the usage condition of the USB apparatus,
saved content may be lost. JVC KENWOOD does not take
responsibility for damages or lost content.
